Position: Program Worker, Safe Communities

Hours: 28 hours per fortnight

Reports to: Executive Officer

Direct Reports: Volunteers

Tenure: Permanent position dependant on continued program funding

Salary: Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010. Level 3 - pay point 1

 

About Hills Community Aid 

Hills Community Aid is a community based not for profit organisation. A-political and non-denominational, Hills Community Aid has established itself as a trusted and vital port of assistance to all people in need across greater western Sydney.  

 

Deeply invested in the wellbeing of our local community since 1969, our agile and integrated approach enables us to be critically responsive to the ever-evolving needs of our community members.  As such, our services on offer are broad and varied but at the heart of all that we do, Hills Community Aid continuously seeks to establish and enhance community connectedness.

Hills Community Aid provides direct access to a broad suite of relevant and dedicated programs including pivotal assistance in the key areas of domestic violence issues, social inclusion and financial crisis support. 

 

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated and proactive worker who is committed and passionate about supporting people and families to have safe and positive outcomes.  The successful applicant will have a sound understanding of Family and Domestic Violence, Homelessness and Elder Abuse and a compassion for working with our vulnerable communities.  

 

Position Duties General

  • Provide information, assistance and warm referrals to clients requiring support with issues relating to homelessness, domestic violence or elder abuse

  • Facilitate group workshops for women who have experienced domestic violence

  • Co-ordinate and facilitate Hills Community Aid’s monthly women’s group

  • Oversee and co-ordinate Hills Community Aid’s Good Men Project

  • Provide general support to Hills Community Aid clients and programs

  • High-level electronic record-keeping

  • Collect and collate statistics

  • Prepare monthly reports

  • Attend monthly team meetings and other organisational development days as required

  • Participate in local network meetings

  • Update social media platforms relevant to the Safer Communities programs

  • Work with volunteers and oversee student placements

  • Adhere to all Policies and Procedures of Hills Community Aid

  • In conjunction with the Executive Office, develop and implement systems to enhance the Safe Communities Role

  • Participate in the development and review of organisational Policies and Procedures

  • Be an active team member, sharing responsibilities, skills and information

  • Ensure a clean and safe workspace

  • Carry out other duties as required by the Executive Officer or Board of Governance

 

Person Specification

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or demonstrated industry experience

  • Demonstrated experience specific to domestic violence, women’s services or community safety programs

  • Demonstrated understanding of Community Development principles

  • Excellent people skills

  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate workshops

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills

  • Proficiency in Google Suite 

  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a small team

  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate volunteers

  • Capacity to work flexible hours as requested and required

  • Current NSW driver’s licence, own registered and insured vehicle

  • Working with Children Check

  • Current Police Check

 

Position Goals

  • Deliver current programs within the Safe Communities Portfolio

  • Grow participation in each of the programs

  • Maintain and build on local referral networks relevant to the Safe Communities portfolio

Student Placement

Hills Community Aid accepts several students each year to complete their placement hours within the organisation. During placement, students have the opportunity to work across all of our programs and given projects. These projects will assist with learning outcomes.

 

Students will meet with our Volunteer Coordinator to discuss Hills Community Aid as a whole, and if suitable for our organisation a timetable will be structured around your study.

 

Hills Community Aid has a preference to accept students from:

 

  • TAFE - Community Services

  • UNI - Social Work or Community Welfare
