The Hills Daily Grind Coffee Van is an award-winning Social Enterprise project, owned and operated by Hills Community Aid. Taking out the Hills Australia Day Award for Excellence in Social Enterprise in 2016, Hills Daily Grind works with a diverse team of staff, students and volunteers to deliver an outstanding community-based barista service.


Our goal is to support positive outcomes for our community by providing information and referral at a grassroots level; alongside targeted training and education programs designed to improve social outcomes, essential workplace skills for all people with barriers to employment and community engagement.

Events Team

Hills Daily Grind serves some of the biggest local events, and events across most of Sydney, and our event list is growing all the time! In previous years this has included Hawkesbury Fest, Burramatta NAIDOC Festival, Australia Day in the Hills, Sydney Mardi Gras Parade, The Hills Winter Sleep-Out, Orange Blossom Festival and local community, school, sporting and social events.

Our unique events team is comprised of students and volunteers, under the guidance of one of our trainers, who are undergoing live job skills training as part of our various work skills programs. Event experience gives us the opportunity to provide industry-standard training experiences in a unique, community- based, live learning environment.

Hills Daily Grind Events Team attend events large and small all over Sydney, every day of the week. From small school carnivals looking to keep parents entertained while they cheer on their kids, to festival crowds of over 15,000 strong, we have an event team and menu to suit your needs.

Cafe Connect Training Program

The Cafe Connect Program is an innovative work-skills and community engagement program offered by the Hills Daily Grind Social Enterprise. Our mobile Cafe Connect program has been designed to assist people at risk, or with barriers to employment. This is achieved through the delivery of a targeted barista training program, focusing on building the practical skills and experience people need to gain employment.

Cafe Connect is delivered over ten one-hour practical lessons where we support the students to practice all their new skills on-site, on our own mobile professional espresso machine. During these 10 weeks students will cover theoretical knowledge and lots of practical hands-on training from the first session.

Some of the units include:

  • Hospitality hygiene & safety, plus Covid specific training

  • How to extract the perfect espresso

  • Customer service, money handling, P.O.S operation

The skills and confidence learnt and practiced during our training are transferable to employability or further training and education.

Kindness Cups

The Kindness Cup program began in 2015 as a community-based donation program. The program allows our customers to directly donate a coffee to disadvantaged members of the community. This donation allows us to engage with the most vulnerable members of our communities and provide them with information and referral; plus a generously donated barista-quality coffee.
